Abhinav Bindra takes a dig at Virat Kohli

There is a dark, dark cloud hovering over the Indian Cricket Team. Virat Kohli and his side have forced Anil Kumble to give up the head coach’s job and in turn have set a precedent for the incoming coach to be ‘yes man’. Anil Kumble was drafted into the coaching role, as the BCCI and the CAC felt that he had the required expertise to work with this bunch of players and also because Kumble has been a very good student of the game all through.

And the results were there to be seen. India dominated the home season under Kumble’s watchful eyes, silently absorbing all the applause, savouring the moment with the camera in hand. But little did we know that the seeds of discomfort and disagreement were being sown in a time when everything looked inch perfect in Indian cricket. Kumble and Kohli, two individuals who had the onus of taking Indian Cricket to the next level were at loggerheads, and when two head strong individuals clash, the less important one has to make away.

And when it comes to Indian cricket, players are given far, far more importance than a coach. Things that meet the eye are valued more here. Thus, when your captain and coach are having a tussle, it is always the coach that will have to make away, and something similar transpired in the Kumble-Kohli spat.

Kumble suggested that Kohli did not really like the difference of opinion, and instead of valuing that, he disregarded it in the worst way possible. BCCI too did not come to the rescue, as Kumble was at loggerheads with them as well with regard to the pay dispute.

While the entire world has questioned Kohli’s demeanour in this controversy with Kumble, Bindra has gone ahead and taken a severe dig at India’s captain, saying that coaches always tell players things that they don’t want to hear.
