Fans accuse VAR

Fans accuse VAR of being biased towards the Red Devils after VAR spares Harry Maguire for his red card challenge on Michy Batshuayi.

Chelsea and Manchester United had a terrific encounter at the Stamford Bridge, probably one of the most intense games between the two in recent past.

As the game went on, physical acts also appeared and one such instance was of Manchester United’s new captain Harry Maguire. The English defender cleared the ball down the line in the 21st minute as he went tumbling to the floor at Stamford Bridge.

However, while falling down, his leg accidentally caught Chelsea’s striker Michy Batshuayi. It appeared to be a nasty knock and Maguire had his studs up and hit between the legs of Batshuayi.

VAR looked into the kick and found that there was no foul play from the 26-year-old United captain. But instead of receiving a clear picture, few fans got annoyed and accused VAR officials biased towards Manchester United.

Many went onto brand their opposition as ‘VARchester United’. The Red Devils went onto gain 1-0 lead by the end of the first half, as Anthony Martial scored the opener from a magnificent cross by Luke Shaw.

Chelsea equalized the score with a header by Kurt Zouma, but it was denied by VAR as Cesar Azplilicueta was spotted making a foul before the goal.

Manchester United went onto extend their lead late in the game as Maguire scored a thumping header from a corner. Meanwhile, Chelsea once again got unlucky as Oliver Giroud scored a goal only to be spotted inches offside by VAR.

So, overall VAR became the biggest enemy for the Blues, as two more decision went against them, one could say Azpilicueta was at fault in the first instance but Giroud’s offside will add onto the controversial offside list until authorities make more clarity over the rule.

This is the third win of Manchester United over Chelsea this season, a 100% record maintained by the Red Devils against their rivals as they have met on three occasions in this campaign.
