Being the first Chinaman to represent India, Kuldeep bamboozled the Aussie top order and already got three wickets by the end of the second session of the first day.
But what do we know about Kuldeep Yadav ? We know that he is an exciting prospect but why didn’t he come into the limelight earlier ?
So here are five interesting things to know about Kuldeep Yadav !
5) First left arm Indian Chinaman
India has had a rich 82 year long Test cricket history but for some strange reason it was not able to produce a left arm Chinaman.
Even in international cricket, Paul Adams and Brad Hogg aside we have not seen many such bowlers in the game. (Five interesting things to know about Kuldeep Yadav !)
This is something that makes Yadav unique and something could come in handy both for him personally as well as for his team.
4) Under 19 World Cup 2012
As a 17 year old, Kuldeep was called up for the Under 19 World Cup probables which was going to be held in April.
Although he showed some promise, he was unable to make the final cut as he just missed out on the final squad that went for the tournament.
It was an unfortunate miss as India went on to win the World Cup under the leadership of Unmukt Chand. (Five interesting things to know about Kuldeep Yadav !)
3) Dreamed of being a fast bowler
Kuldeep grew up idolizing Wasim Akram as he dreamed of representing India as a left arm pacer.
But his coach persuaded him to switch as he felt that there were already too many pacers in the set up. There was a place for an unorthodox spinner and he believed that Kuldeep could fill that void.
While admitting that he found it very tough in the beginning, Kuldeep realized that he had a gift for bowling spin and then eventually focused all his energy into becoming a spin bowler.
2) Surprise call up to the national team
Kuldeep Yadav impressed one and all with his performances in the CLT20.
And it was through these performances that he was rewarded with a surprise call up to the national team for the ODI series against West Indies.
This was even more surprising considering the fact that he did not play a single first class game for Uttar Pradesh.
1) IPL Journey
kuldeKuldeep Yadav was first picked as a part of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction.
Although he didn’t get to play much, he remembers his time with MI very fondly and credits Sachin Tendulkar for giving him a lot of great advice.
His star began to shine when he donned the KKR colours as his performances drew praise form one and all.
He picked up 6 wickets in 5 matches as he was KKR’s standout bowler in the last CL T20.
