Marcelo: Zidane eyes Premier League star as replacement for Real Madrid star in a summer move

Real Madrid are eyeing Premier League star as a replacement for the left-back Marcelo.

When Zinedine Zidane took over the club, president Florentino Perez assured him full transfer powers. The Los Blancos boss has been insistent on transfers and the on-going inconsistency has only forced him to assess plenty of players in the summer.

Real Madrid’s enticement on Paul Pogba and Eden Hazard is not a secret, and they are targetting yet another Premier League star to upgrade their squad. According to Fox Sports, the Los Blancos are eyeing a deal for Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso. The Spanish International has rarely played since the turn of the New year and is likely to play second fiddle to the Brazilian Emerson Palmieri in the forthcoming window.

The former Fiorentina defender has been shambolic defensively, but his attacking attributes cannot be undermined. He is an excellent free-kick taker and has the capability to score goals from set pieces with his head. The left-back has made 37 appearances, scoring four times and assisting seven times this season.

Marcelo has been susceptible in the back for a while now and a replacement for the Brazilian seems completely relevant. The Real Madrid defender has been in and out of Zinedine Zidane’s side with Sergio Reguilon taking his slot at times.

Marcos Alonso has the same problem as Marcelo, but he has time on his side to improve and become the best left-back in the world. With amazing traits possessed as a full-back, Alonso has the ability to pick out passes to play one-two and produce inch-perfect crosses which would enhance the chance of increasing the goal tally.

The 28-year-old has a contract until 2023 and it would cost around 60 million to lure him away from Stamford Bridge. There could be plenty of question marks raised over this move, but he could suit Zidane’s bill.

Here’s how Twitter reacted..

What’s next?

Chelsea will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the second leg of the Europa League Semifinals at Stamford Bridge on Thursday and that game will be followed by the clash at King Power Stadium against Leicester City in the final day of this year’s Premier League.
