Rahul Dravid replacement: Who has replaced Dravid as India A and India U-19 Coach?

Rahul Dravid replacement: The former Indian captain will head the NCA (National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru now.

Former India captain Rahul Dravid is all set to take charge at the NCA (National Cricket Academy) in Bengaluru as the Head of Cricket. The appointment means that Dravid will no longer be coach of the India A and India U-19 team.

Elected in 2015, plentiful young Indian cricketers have benefited from Dravid’s stint as the coach of the two teams. Under Dravid, the U-19 team finished as the runners-up and winners in ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016 and 2018 respectively. In the past, several players have spoken highly of excelling under Dravid.

While Dravid coached both the teams at the same time, that doesn’t seem to happen in the times to come. In situations when both the teams played at the same time, former India opening batsman WV Raman used to step in as coach of the U-19 team.

Talking about the India A squad, former Saurashtra batsman will perform the dual responsibility of being the A team’s head coach and batting coach. Former India spinner Ramesh Powar, whose stint with the women’s team didn’t go too well, has been named as the bowling coach of the A team.

T Dilip, who was among the shortlisted candidates for the Indian team’s fielding coach, will now coach the A team. It is worth mentioning that the appointments have been only made for the South Africa A’s upcoming tour of India.

Who will coach the U-19 team?

As far as the U-19 team is concerned, former India fast bowler Paras Mhambrey will perform the dual role of head coach and bowling coach of the U-19 team. Former India batsman Hrishikesh Kanitkar has been elected as the batting coach of the U-19 team.

Abhay Sharma, who was the fielding coach under Dravid, has retained his position with the U-19 team. India U-19 are scheduled to take part in the U-19 Asia Cup next month.
