Virender Sehwag has become one of the most sought after celebrities on social media, using his brash humour to entertain millions online. And while it started off as a fun activity for Viru, he has ended up becoming a cult figure on Twitter, with people eagerly waiting to read his comments on trending topics.

While Viru’s fan following has multiplied manifold, he has also figured out an alternative revenue stream for himself with his activity on Twitter. Viru recently revealed in an interview with Hindustan Times that he had earned about Rs 30 lakh with his Twitter exploits.

As per the reports of the Hindustan Times, Sehwag said, I have, in the last six months, made around Rs 30 lakh through my tweets.”

Sehwag also works as a humourist on the Youtube channel, ‘Viru ke funde’.

Viru has a following of about 8 million on Twitter and almost all his tweets garner thousands of retweets and reactions, making his position as an ‘online influencer’ very strong. And this is where the money flows in for the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’!

Online influencers are hired by brands to create a buzz for their product on social media and to help increase their brand awareness. Influencers leverage their high social media reach to out to the public and help these brands create hype for themselves, and in turn also increase their own social media presence.

This symbiotic relationship between brands and online influencers has become one of the most sought after marketing channels these days!

Virender Sehwag has paved way for many retired sports professionals to carve a new world for themselves on social media, staying in touch with their fans and also making a few bucks out of it.

We just hope that Viru keeps entertaining us lesser mortals with his wit and keeps on piling up the cash as well. He has already tied up with Amazon, Snapdeal and Airoshine.
