Twitter users went on a rage after Anushka Sharma stood in front in team photo, while no player was with their partner.

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are one of the most popular and adored couples across the cricketing community. The two are adored for every social media interaction. However, they have been the subject of endless trolling as well.

The most memorable incident was when Virat Kohli posted a video of Anushka Sharma signaling a man to not throw waste on the road on his Instagram handle. That particular post raised huge controversy and divided people on two ends.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain and his wife have been involved in yet another controversy. India’s entire tour squad from England was invited in London by India’s High Commissioner.

The BCCI uploaded a picture of the squad with the host on its Twitter account. Several sharp eyed fans were quick to notice that Anushka Sharma had accompanied Virat Kohli while no other player was with his partner. This raised doubts of bias and Rohit Sharma also liked a tweet of late questioning the BCCI’s decision to allow Anushka Sharma.

However, a source close to the Indian Cricket Board has confirmed that players were invited along with their families by the Commissioner.

“This is the norm wherever the team travels. The High Commission invites the players with their relatives. And it is eventually the decision of the individuals. Even in London the players were invited along with their partners. There has been no breach of any protocol,” a source in the BCCI told Hindustan Times on conditions of anonymity.

A source from the High Commission also agreed to the fact, saying:

“Anushka Sharma came to the reception for the Indian cricket team at the invitation of the high commissioner and his wife. The reception was hosted by the high Commissioner and his wife and not the High Commission.

“The group photo was taken as the team were entering the house. Ajinkya Rahane may have stood at the back on his own. He wasn’t asked to stand there. The reception was at the high commissioner’s residence and not at the high commission.”

India now need to turn their attentions away from controversy and concentrate on chasing the five match test series which they trail 1-0. The second test gets underway with each Indian player wanting to prove a point.
