It is a tough job to be a cricket umpire. In what is a thankless job, you are constantly scrutinized for every bad mistake that you make, while rarely praised for a good decision.

It is almost as if you are expected to only make the right decision, with no scope left for human error. Unfair? Maybe, but that is the level at which you are expected to perform as an international umpire.
Unfortunately, the standard of Indian umpires has been shocking to say the least.
On the bright side, the BCCI has realized this and have decided to bring back the captain’s report. The captain’s report is essentially a report card for the umpires that the captain will submit to the match referee.

This used to be quite popular in the past, but eventually died down over time.
“It is assumed that the umpires started to take things lightly as they knew no player was authorized to file an official complaint. It had to be checked,” a BCCI functionary close to the development told TOI on Wednesday.
“There was a point that it seemed that the losing captain would give an extremely negative report. The aggrieved cricketers struggled to write a balanced report,” the official said.
The frequent number of matches have exposed the umpires on many occasions, leading to them to give bad decisions.
Hopefully, this new suggestion could help in improving the quality of umpires.
