ABD runs in IPL 2021: The former South African captain continues to pile on the runs with authority in the Indian Premier League.

During the 22nd match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers smashed his 40th IPL half-century to power his team to 171/5 in 20 overs.

Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the ninth over, de Villiers put on display yet another one-man show as he scored a whirlwind 75* (42) with the help of three fours and five sixes.

In what was yet another archetype hard-hitting innings from the 37-year old player, de Villiers hit as many as three sixes against Delhi Capitals all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to punish rookie captain Rishabh Pant for his miscalculation of bowlers.

Apart from de Villiers, RCB batsman Rajat Patidar also scored an impact-generating 31 (22) comprising of two sixes as the pair put together a 54-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Having scored 204 runs in five innings at an average and strike rate of 68 and 174.35 respectively, de Villiers is currently the sixth-highest run-scorer in IPL 2021. After all-rounder Glenn Maxwell (223), de Villiers has been the second-best batsman for Royal Challengers this season for now.

In what was de Villiers’ 69th half-century tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium, it is highly likely to add weight to the speculations around his international comeback especially with a couple of ICC T20 World Cups looming.
