During the 15th match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell put on display an unusual dismissal to put an end to his swashbuckling innings.
Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the sixth over of a 221-run chase, Russell found himself amidst the proceedings in a daunting situation. Predominantly to play the big shots at will, Russell didn’t seem to care about the situation as he commenced his innings with a couple of boundaries and a six off Chennai Super Kings fast bowler Lungi Ngidi.

Russell, who hit a six off Chennai seamer Deepak Chahar in his last over, then assaulted Shardul Thakur hitting him for a four and three sixes in his first over.
With Kolkata needing 124 runs in 10 overs, Russell was their solitary hope despite vice-captain Dinesh Karthik also being among the boundaries frequently. It was on the last delivery of the 11th over that Russell slammed a six off CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to register a 21-ball half-century at the Wankhede Stadium.
While both Knight Riders and their fans would’ve wanted Russell to carry on, he became Super Kings all-rounder Sam Curran’s first wicket of the match. It was on the second delivery of the 12th over when Russell wanted to leave a Curran delivery down the leg side to earn a wide. However, the ball did enough to hit Russell’s stumps from behind his legs as the 32-year old player scored 54 (22) with the help of three fours and six sixes.
