Dhoni ducks in IPL: How many times has MS Dhoni been dismissed on 0 in Indian Premier League?

Dhoni ducks in IPL: The former Indian captain didn’t start his Indian Premier League 2021 campaign on a promising note.

During the second match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals in Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni failed to begin his season on a promising note.

Dhoni, who came in to bat at No. 7 in the 16th over after all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, had to walk back to the pavilion after facing only a couple of deliveries. Facing Delhi Capitals pacer Avesh Khan, Dhoni’s attempt of pulling the right-arm bowler saw him inside edging the ball on to his stumps.

Playing a competitive match after more than five months, Dhoni’s plentiful fans would’ve wanted him to hit a few boundaries but it wasn’t to be at the Wankhede Stadium tonight.

As far as departing without scoring in the IPL is concerned, Dhoni registered only his fourth duck tonight. In 183 IPL innings, Dhoni has scored 4,632 runs at an average and strike rate of 40.63 and 136.67 respectively. Currently the eighth-highest run-scorer in the tournament, Dhoni has also has 23 IPL half-centuries under his belt.

Earlier, it was Capitals captain Rishabh Pant who had invited CSK in to bat. On the back of all-rounder Sam Curran scoring a game-changing 34 (15), Super Kings put on board 188/7 in 20 overs. Having scored 54 (36) with the help of three fours and four sixes, CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina was their top-scorer because of his 40th IPL half-century.

With bowling figures of 3-0-18-2, DC all-rounder Chris Woakes was the pick of their bowlers. Avesh, who had opened the bowling with Woakes, also bowled well to pick bowling figures of 4-0-23-2.
