“Oh no”: Tom Cooper run-out in unfortunate manner in Western Australia vs South Australia Marsh Cup clash

Tom Cooper run-out: The batsman from South Australia was dismissed in an unfortunate manner at the WACA today.

During the third match of the ongoing 52nd season of the Marsh Cup between Western Australia and South Australia in Perth, South Australia batsman Tom Cooper was at the receiving end of an unfortunate dismissal.

It all happened on the first delivery of the 46th over when South Australia all-rounder Corey Kelly hit a Liam Guthrie delivery in the air on the off-side. While both the batsmen were interested in running a couple of runs, Kelly slipped at the non-striker’s end while returning for the double to cause problems for his partner.

Knowing that Kelly wouldn’t have made it to the striker’s end after slipping, Cooper tried to return back but in vain as he was way short of the crease when Josh Inglis dislodged the bails after receiving a pinpoint throw from Nick Hobson.

Cooper, who departed after scoring 7 (6) in a 370-run chase, was among the four South Australian batsmen who got run-out at the WACA today.

As well as the visitors tried to seal the chase, they fell short by 13 runs as Western Australia bundled them out for 356 in 49.2 overs. It was a near game-changing 226-run partnership between South Australia opening batsman Harry Nielsen (110) and captain Travis Head (142). For the hosts, Guthrie, Aaron Hardie and Joel Paris picked a couple of wickets each.

Earlier, Western Australia scored a mammoth 369/5 in 50 overs after Head won the toss and chose to bowl. In the first innings, the home team thrived on the back of individual centuries by captain Shaun Marsh (113) and all-rounder Cameron Green (144).
