Pat Cummins sixes: The fast bowler from Kolkata Knight Riders played an instrumental role in carrying the match to the last over.

During the 15th match of the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Pat Cummins put on display a remarkable rescue act to score his career-best T20 score.

Coming in to bat at No. 8 in the 12th over, Cummins’ chance came due to Andre Russell’s dismissal. At a stage when a majority of people must’ve thought about the match being as good as over, Cummins scored effortless boundaries at will to take the match to the last over.

Having commenced the assault by hitting a couple of boundaries against Shardul Thakur in the 14th over, Cummins hit his first six off Lungi Ngidi in the following over.

Needing 75 runs to win in the last five overs, it was in the 16th over that Cummins smashed as many as 30 runs off Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Sam Curran to bring down the equation to 45 runs in four overs.

After running a couple of runs on the first ball, Cummins hit four sixes and a four against the left-arm pacer. Taking the onus upon himself in the business end of the match, Cummins appeared to have done his best to seal the chase but lack of support from the end other spoke of the otherwise.

In what was his second IPL half-century, Cummins ended up scoring 66* (34) with the help of four fours and six sixes. Other than Cummins, Russell also contributed significantly with a swashbuckling 54 (22) comprising of two fours and six sixes.
