David Beckham to sign Lionel Messi: Former football star David Beckham wants to sign Lionel Messi for his MLS start-up club, Inter Miami.

England’s football icon David Beckham played most of his final years of football for Los Angeles Galaxy in the Major League Soccer. Beckham is now set to launch his own football club, Inter Miami, which will makes its debut in 2020.

British outlet Daily Mail reports that the English star wants to sign Lionel Messi for his club.

The Argentine star has spoken in length about ending his career at Barcelona in the past, but in a recent interview, he added that he might leave the Catalan side to play in Argentina. Daily Mail suggests that his problems playing with the national team might hinder his chances to play in Argentina.

There has not been an official communication from Inter Miami to Lionel Messi, but the British outlet reports that with more than 70% of Latin population in Miami, Messi could be attracted to sign for Beckham’s side.

Daily Mail’s source close to Beckham’s new club has revealed that there hasn’t been a contact with Messi, but the representatives of the club are tempted to bring him to Inter Miami.

The speculations also comes on the idea that club executives believe that it is only a matter of time before MLS would make its first elite signing in the history of the league. Until now, most European clubs prefer MLS in the twilight of their careers.

Inter Miami will make their debut in 2020, and Lionel Messi would be 33 by that time. Messi’s current contract with the club expires in 2021.

As of now, Beckham’s club is yet to settle on a stadium, and are awaiting the results of a referendum which would determine their location.
