Mattia Binotto attacks Toto Wolff over Racing Point controversy, points that everyone looks at their own interests in the sport.
Racing Point and Mercedes have found themselves amidst alleged illegality during the manufacturing of the 2020 Racing Point car, with accusations of former copying the designs of the latter.
The appeal made by Renault over the brake ducts even got upheld by the FIA and Racing Point received a 15 point penalty and a €400,000 fine.
Amidst all of this Mattia Binotto has attacked Toto Wolff who was guaranteeing Mercedes’ innocence and even said that they would be glad to go to the court to defend themselves.
“There have been protests, and there was the first verdict that said that what Racing Point did was illegal. This is the starting point,” said Binotto in front of the camera of Sky Sports Italia. “Stroll and Wolff may be furious, but there’s been a violation of the regulations here.”
Binotto then compares the situation with someone who passes an exam by copying someone else’s answers. In his eyes, it is the most normal thing that punishment is given for this and it must be heavier for him than the fifteen points that have now been deducted.
“We have laid down our intention to appeal. We believe the verdict was not adequate, and we have four days to confirm it. This is normal. We’re competitors and everyone’s looking at their own interests.”

After the judgement came against Racing Point, 5 teams protested against the decision, one being Racing Point itself, which plead for being innocent in the case.
Whereas, Renault, Ferrari, McLaren and Williams were four teams which appealed for even stricter punishment for their rival side. With this, future advancements in the case are awaited.
