“They’re just faster”– Lewis Hamilton felt lonely in the battle against Red Bull in Austria as Max Verstappen seals another win.
Max Verstappen had a comfortable win in Austria, which secured a straight fourth successive victory for Red Bull this year. The Dutch race driver started from the pole position, only to be uncontested.
Lewis Hamilton, who was used to do this in previous years, became the victim of the same monotony. According to Briton, he felt lonely in the battle against Verstappen.
“It was a bit of a lonely race. I was trying to keep up but with the speed they have, they’ve obviously made some big improvements over the last couple of races and it’s impossible to keep up,” he said to Skysports during the post-race interview.
“I don’t know where we’re losing all the time but I think their long-run looks to be a bit better. We lose a lot down the straights. We got good points as a team today and we need to keep pushing.
“I try not to concern myself (with Red Bull’s momentum). They’re just faster. I’ve got to do the best job I can each weekend and we need to find some performance. We need an upgrade of some sort. We need to find some performance from somewhere.”
Mercedes gave everything
Hamilton after the race told his team “we gave it everything guys, let’s keep pushing”. While victory seemed out of the sight, Hamilton made an extra pitstop in the final laps to fetch the extra point from the fastest lap in which he was successful.
Thus, presently he stands 18 points behind Verstappen in the championship race. Whereas, Mercedes is now 40 points behind Red Bull in the constructors’ race.
Next week, both the teams will meet at the same venue, with the first part of the double-header in Austria is over.
