Williams F1 Virtual Race: British Team announces launch of virtual Formula 1 racing experience

Williams F1 Virtual Race: The virtual racing experience platform will be launched in this weekend’s 70th anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Williams is one of the most iconic teams in Formula One history, since its debut in 1977. Since then, it has won 9 Constructors’ Championships and 7 Drivers’ Championships. It is the second-most successful F1 Constructor after Ferrari, which has 16 Constructors’ Championship.

Williams, renowned for its fan engagement, has now launched the Williams Virtual Experience platform. It is, as the name suggests, a virtual Formula 1 race day experience platform.  The platform will first be live at this weekend’s 70th anniversary Grand Prix, celebrating seven decades of Formula 1.

Features of the Williams Virtual Experience platform

The platofrm will provide behind-the-scenes experience on race days, including the track side garage and factory. Apart from this, viewers will also get the chance to access exclusive pre-race interviews with the Williams staff. Opportunities will also be provided to interact with Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams, as also George Russell and Nicholas Latifi.

The Williams Virtual Experience platform was trialed as a demo in the British Grand Prix, also at Silverstone. The British team aims to get closer to their fanbase through this, as covid-19 restrictions ensue in Formula 1. The platform will be during the 2020 Formula One World Championship season. There are also plans for developing new features for each Grand Prix this season.

Tim Hunt, Commercial and Marketing Director of Williams Racing, spoke about the launch in an official announcement. He expressed pride in this team for developing this unique platform. Hunt is confident this will provide quality engagement value to their fans and partners. He also promised to expand the platform further, with constant enhancements.

“COVID-19 has been a challenge but also an opportunity for us to innovate and accelerate the launch of initiatives like this. I am proud of the team who have pulled this together and I am excited by the opportunities this provides us and our commercial family. In our opinion, virtual and hybrid events have a huge part to play in not only the global expansion of our sport, but also in our ability to deliver value back to our partners and fans alike. This is just the start for this platform, and we will have more to offer our fans as it expands in the future.”
