Gareth Bale Zinedine Zidane appeals to Real Madrid fans not to boo the Welsh winger

Gareth Bale: Zinedine Zidane appeals to Real Madrid fans not to boo the Welsh winger after they jeered him off during the match vs Real Sociedad.

Real Madrid stomped to a 3-1 win over Real Sociedad after conceding in the 2nd minute of the match itself. However, the match was marred towards the end with fans heavily booing star winger Gareth Bale. The supporters of the club were still miffed about what he had done while on International duty.

Gareth Bale was seen celebrating Wales’ qualification to the Euro 2020 with a flag that read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order”. As a result, he was booed out of the stadium all through the night. First, when his name was announced on the speakers.

The second instance was when he was introduced in the match in the 66th minute. After that, every moment he had the ball was greeted with boos and whistles. However, manager Zinedine Zidane has pleaded with the fans to forgive the player and move on.

Zidane defends Bale

“I hope this doesn’t carry on for the rest of the season,” Zidane said in quotes reported by Marca. “We want the fans to be with us from the beginning to the end, but we cannot control that,” the Real Madrid coach said.

“The public has the right to do what they want, but I ask that they applaud everyone. I’m happy with the game and the victory and Bale came into the game well.

“What you have to do is keep working on the pitch.”

Zidane added: “I have not spoken to him (about the jeers), I have only congratulated him.

“I can’t tell you if it’s unfair or not. Everyone can say what they want. We need our fans, then we can’t control what happens.

“There is too much noise with Bale, he wants to be with us and do it well. That is why we don’t want to talk so much.

“He is integrated into the group and wants to play, just like everyone else.”

Gareth Bale was impressive in the 25 minutes he was on the pitch and even helped set up their 3rd goal with an assist to Luka Modric. However, whether his performance and Zidane’s plea helps the fans change their mind over the star remains to be seen.
