Trent failed to make the cut for England’s upcoming matches

After being considered as one of the finest leftback’s in the game last season, Trent Alexander-Arnold has clearly lost his way.

The 2020-21 season has been one of the worst for the Liverpool fullback. With Virgil van Dijk out with an injury, Trent has been devoid of the defensive cover his CB provided him, one which has brought to light his ineptness when it comes to the defensive side of the game.

Failing to occupy ideal positions, Trent has ended up making a multitude of mistakes which have cost Liverpool dearly. Also, he’s failed to impact the attacking side of the game either, dipping form which ultimately resulted in him being shunted out of England’s squad.

The young defender was omitted by Southgate for the upcoming round of World Cup qualifiers. The leftback is said to have been left aghast at being shunned with Liverpool equally anguished at the decision.

Trent has ever since found support in the form of his countryman and old Liverpool player, Steven Gerrad. Committing on his ouster from England’s setup, the Rangers’ manager went onto claim that he was equally surprised by Southgate’s move.

Gerrad Bats For Trent

Gerrard also talked about how he was always there for Trent and more than willing to lend his ear to the defender.

“One thing’s for sure, I’ll always be there for Trent,” said Liverpool’s old midfielder Gerrard.

“It goes without saying, any second of the day. I wouldn’t make the first move.

“He’s a man himself. He knows where he’s at. Gareth Southgate makes the decisions there. I don’t necessarily agree with that decision. But I’m not the England manager. I think Trent is the best English right back in the country.

“One thing I’ve learned from being a player is you can’t always be 10 out of 10. When you do come off, you need that support, love and attention from your manager more than anyone else.”
