“I’d be looking to move him on”- Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher advice Manchester United to transfer Paul Pogba as he terms him a liability.
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has attacked Paul Pogba for his lack of usefulness to Manchester United and advised the Red Devils to sell him elsewhere.
Ever since Manchester United lost 6-1 to Tottenham Hotspur, Pogba has been consistently out of the starting XI of Ole Solskjaer, with Fred and Scott McTominay filling his place in between.
Now, as Pogba has his contract with Manchester United till 2022, Carragher has insisted that it would be better for his fierce rivals to sell him for good money.
“He’s possibly never done well in any position or tactical set up that different managers have had,” Carragher told talkSPORT as per Manchester Evening News. “Would I pick him in Manchester United? No, I wouldn’t. He’s a huge name, he’s come for a huge transfer fee, but I don’t think he’s a great player.
“People say he’s won the World Cup and I get that. But when he came in I thought he might have the impact like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – those players drove their team to titles, European Cups.
“When you’re that man who’s seen as the one to take United to the next level, which people might say it’s too much pressure to put on one man, but that’s what we were told was coming. It just hasn’t happened for him at Manchester United. For me, I’d be looking to move him on.”
Tactical dilemma due to Pogba
Carragher further opined that the presence of Pogba complicates the tactical planning of the team, as in the current setup he gets defensively exposed.
“Manchester United have to play two holding midfield players because it’s been proven that when Pogba has played in one of those advanced positions, against Crystal Palace and Brighton, you got counter-attacked and it was so open.
“Pogba cannot play central midfield because it leaves you too exposed. We highlighted that and analysed that on Monday Night Football,” he said.
