IPL match timings to be changed

Back in 2008, one of the biggest issues that the IPL faced was the unavailability of some international stars due to their national team commitments.

Everyone knew that for the IPL to truly become a huge success you needed the presence of the best players in the world. But that was not possible as the international cricket calendar was just too cramped for the ICC to find a window for the cash rich league.

That is until now.

In a recent meeting in Singapore, each member country put forth their proposal of how the international cricket calendar should pan out. India put out a different proposal all together as they look to restructure their cricket calendar.

India will not play away from home between October and November, February and March during the right cycles of 2019 and 2023. The idea behind this is to prevent team India from playing meaningless cricket matches in the future.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has made it clear to the BCCI that the team does not appreciate playing cricket matches for no apparent reason. The recent series against Sri Lanka is a great example, as India had just toured Sri Lanka a couple of months ago.

A source also had this to say,

“The revised FTP suggests one simple formula. India will not play meaningless cricket anymore. Each member board is committed to six bilateral arrangements in two years. But the ICC cannot dictate the context in the content.”

India has also asked other countries to keep their players free off international duties during a two-month window that will ensure thorough participation during the IPL.

As of now, only the ECB have refused to agree to this window while all other countries have no issue with BCCI’s proposal.
