Small-Forward and All-star player Kevin Durant is currently finishing the first of his two-discounted deal valued at $51 million deal, which had an interesting opt-out clause attached to it. The deal meant that if Durant wished to swap his place to another team, he would be free in the second year.

In April, however, reports close to the ESPN suggested that the small-forward would decline the player option and would sign a new and restructured contract after becoming a free agent in the summer.

“I’m planning on staying with the Warriors, and we’ll figure the rest out,” Durant said, before adding that only the “small details” remained to be figured out.

Durant’s pay-cut for the team:

Last year, Durant took a pay cut of nearly $ 10 million less than what his max salary would give the team room to re-sign both Andre Iguodala and backup point guard Shaun Livingston.

While the veteran has come to the party in the finals, Livingston has blown hot and cold off while playing in most parts of the season.

Further, the Warriors would want to close this deal as soon as possible to look out for options in the future. It looks like the bench is going to have a shuffle in the off-season, with guys like Damian Jones and David West finding other franchise for themselves.

Durant has always been impressive in the third playoff games, with last year resulting in a win for the Warriors as so was this season.

A massive success for the Warriors:

Durant’s stint with the Warriors has been a massive success for both the parties, as Durant got his first ring while the Warriors marched on to their second in three years.

In Game 3 of the NBA Finals 2018, Durant scored 43 points while grabbing 13 rebounds and dishing out seven assists in a comeback win for the Warriors.

This performance not only garnered the attention of his critics but also garnered the attention of Cleveland Cavalier’s LeBron James.

It was a performance that led Cavaliers star LeBron James to say, “Kevin Durant is one of the best players I’ve ever played against, that this league has ever seen.” as he concluded.
