Kyrgios vs Gasquet

Kyrgios vs Gasquet: Nick Kyrgios stirred another controversy when he appeared to have said, “I want him to break” for Richard Gasquet.

Ever since Nick Kyrgios rose to fame after defeating Rafa Nadal in the 4th round at Wimbledon 2014, he has managed to remain in the news for some reason or the other. Most of the time, his on-and-off court actions stir controversy, which leads to fans questioning his attitude.

Something similar happened during the ongoing Japan Open, where Nick Kyrgios invited criticism for his behavior on the court.

Kyrgios vs Gasquet: Aussie tennis star stirs controversy

Nick Kyrgios played France’s Richard Gasquet in the round-of-16 of the Japan Open. While Gasquet emerged a winner in a straight-set win over the Aussie, Kyrgios’ on-court behavior drew eye-balls again.

The incident happened during the second set.

Richard Gasquet was on serve, and Nick Kyrgios, who was struggling, told his staff in the box, “I want him to break.”

The Frenchman was kind enough to accept Kyrgios’ demand and cruised to victory in the second set. With this win, Gasquet now leads 6-2 in head-to-head stats over the Australian tennis player.

This is not the first time when Kyrgios has been in controversy this year. In the US Open last month, the second round of the tournament was marred with accusations on chair umpire for counseling Kyrgios.

The umpire was subsequently suspended by the ATP.

Here is the video from the incident from the Japan Open 2019:

Japan Open:

Richard Gasquet beat Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinal, while Kei Nishikori, Dimitri Medvedev and Denis Shavopalov have all reached the semifinals of the Japan Open 2018.

Gasquet will face local favorite Kei Nishikori.
