Luka Modric will reportedly sign a new deal with Real Madrid, according to Spanish outlet MARCA.

Luka Modric signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2012. Since then, the Croatian has gone from being voted the window’s worst signing to becoming one of the world’s best midfielders.

He has come a long way since his signing by Real Madrid six years ago. With every passing season, his importance to the club has visibly increased. He has been instrumental and played a vital role in every collective triumph of theirs since his arrival.

This summer, following a series of stellar performances with his club and a fabulous display against the odds with Croatia, Modric emerged as a target for Inter Milan. Since Inter established Modric on their radar, Real Madrid were aware that they had to shrug off interest from the Nerrazzuri and hold on to Modric.

This was mainly due to the club already recovering from the shocking departures of Zidane and Ronaldo one behind the other.

Real Madrid wanted to keep Modric desperately and keep him happy too. As a result, the Whites have offered the World Cup Golden Ball winner an improved contract. Modric’s deal with the club would see him earn 10 million euros every year, which will be on par with Sergio Ramos and second to only Gareth Bale.

This comes as a result of tireless and dedicated performances for Real Madrid and also for his exploits with Croatia in the last few years.

Luka Modric had spoken about his desire to retire previously with Real Madrid with that dream still alive and kicking. The diminutive midfielder will be looking to add to his tally of a respectable trophy cabinet under Julen Lopetegui.

He has won a league title and four UEFA Champions Leagues with many other trophies also with the club to his sub-name. Luka Modric has made 257 appearances for Real Madrid in the last six years. He has scored 13 goals and created 40 for his teammates.
