Man convicted for Michael Jordan’s father’s murder wants new trial

Michael Jordan’s father was murdered in 1993, when a robbery went bad and Daniel Green pulled the trigger to take James Jordan’s life.

Daniel Green and friend Larry Demery had been convicted of first degree murder, with Demery even testifying against Green.

However, 25 years on Green has requested for a new trial as he according to his lawyer and him, he was convicted unfairly.

“Daniel Green is innocent. He is innocent factually, morally and, most important in this courtroom, legally,” Green’s attorney, Christian Mumma said.

Now, Green was involved in disposing off James Jordan’s body, but denied having any role to play in pulling the trigger and shooting down Jordan’s father.

“The way I look at it is: I denied his family the right to a proper burial because of what I did,” he said.

Green wants a fresh trial as the one 22 years back wasn’t handled well by the court and by his then lawyer Angus Thompson.

Green’s lawyer has called out the botched up investigation and how there was a discrepancy about Jordan’s shirt.

“I don’t know why there’s a discrepancy [about Jordan’s shirt]. I think the most reasonable answer is that the autopsy missed the hole,” Mumma said.

Mumma has claimed that Green wasn’t present at the site of murder, had nothing to do with it and did not even know where it was happening.

“He didn’t do it. He wasn’t there. He didn’t know anything about it happening,” Mumma said.

“He is completely innocent of the charges he was convicted of.” Mumma added.

Jordan’s body was found later in a Gum swamp along the border of North Carolina, where he was disposed off by Green and his friend.

Green and Demery are serving life sentences presently and we’ll have to wait and see how the court responds to this plea.

Post the murder, Green was pictured wearing the all-star ring that Michael Jordan had given to his father, one that Green must have taken off his body while disposing it.

Do you think Green will get a new trial and the opportunity to prove his innocence, or will the verdict from 1996 still stand?

If the new requested trial goes through and Mumma is able to prove that Green was indeed not present at the murder site, he could very well be on his way out of jail.
