Five years ago the F1 fraternity was dealt with a major shock, when 7 time world champion, Michael Schumacher had endured a horrific ski accident, one that put his life in serious danger.

Schumacher had endured multiple head injuries and hasn’t made a public appearance since. He is currently residing in his luxury house in Switzerland, where he is under intensive care 24*7.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of that horrific accident and the man who rescued Schumacher has revealed details about the aftermath of the accident and how the entire rescue operation was carried out.

Helicopters had to be used in order to rescue Schumacher, something that was not the norm and hence Stephane Bozon(the man responsible for the rescue operation) knew that the accident was a serious one.

“The first responders only said that because the accident site was next to the slope, it was difficult for them to transport him carefully and cautiously,” Bozon said as quoted by FOCUS.

“I still remember that the emergency doctors of the helicopter had problems with the first care on the slopes because of the location of the accident.

“It was clear that it was very serious, otherwise we would not have used the helicopter. Mr Schumacher was lucky.” he added.

Bozon also confirmed that Schumacher wasn’t skiing within the stipulated boundaries and that the accident largely occurred because of less amount of snowfall.

“I saw the stone Schumacher encountered with his skis and the stone he hit with his head,” he said.

“The special thing was that it had snowed so little in the days before that the stones were slightly covered with snow, but only with a very thin blanket of snow. He could not see the stone.

“But if it had snowed more, Schumacher would probably just have glided over the first stone.

“The operator of the ski resort is not at fault. Because if you go off the slopes, it is at your own risk.” he concluded.
