Egypt are set to call up the player for the upcoming Olympics

Although the new season of the Premier League is something which Liverpool won’t be thinking about at the moment, one major development is set to be playing on the club’s mind.

With the Premier League club confirming that the 2021-22 season would be commencing on Saturday, 14 August 2021, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah could end up missing the side’s first couple of ties. Reports in England have stated that Egypt are all set to call up Salah to partake for the country in the prestigious games as one of their overage players.

Salah To Play For Egypt

Although Egypt are yet to affirm the same, a slew of outlets have asserted that Salah is all set to travel to Japan for the Olympics. Slated for July 23 to August 8, the games will all but rule out Salah stepping out for Liverpool once the new season begins of August 14.

Previously, Egypt’s U23 coach, Gharib had asserted that Salah would be included in the country’s squad for the games. A rule change has increased the age limit for the games to 24 from the previous 23 with three players above 24 also allowed.

Speaking to Egyptian TV, Shawky Gharib, Egypt’s U23 coach had said: “Egypt Under 23s team’s preliminary squad will be led by Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shenawy alongside another goalkeeper.

“Salah is currently one of the most important players in the world and it’s normal to call him for Egypt’s Olympic squad. We will start the official talks with Liverpool after the international break next March.”

For Liverpool, holding onto Salah first is of utmost concern. Although Klopp has on a bevy of occasions asserted that the player would be staying with the club, the club is said to have identified Luis Suarez as a viable replacement if Salah does decide to leave.

Despite being Liverpool’s leading scorer in the league with the 16 goals, Salah clearly hasn’t been his usual self this season. The player has looked irate on aplenty occasions with him in particular lashing out on a couple of instances after being substituted.
