“I still think I can win MVP”: Sixers’ Joel Embiid backs himself to finish the season strong and make his case for a first-ever MVP trophy over Nikola Jokic, LeBron James etc

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid makes his ambitions for winning MVP crystal clear after their win against the Thunder. 

Joel Embiid had a flying start to the 2020-21 NBA season to say the least. The player was putting up unbelievable numbers and was arguably the team’s best player on both ends of the floor.

Unfortunately for the Philadelphia 76ers though, the star soon went down due to what seemed likely to be an ACL tear at first. Thankfully, it was nothing more than a bone bruise.

The star has since recovered from the injury and is starting to get back to the levels that he was soaring at before. However, in the 10 games, he did miss, players like James Harden and Nikola Jokic have seemingly overtaken him in this year’s MVP race.

Many have since wondered if the player was still a candidate for the award at all. Responding to those doubts, Joel Embiid recently spoke to the media on the topic.

“I’ve been dominating all season, and I’m not going to stop”: Joel Embiid thinks he can still win MVP 

After what could have been a scary injury, it would have been understandable for the star to take it easy for a few more games. But Joel Embiid has looked incredibly motivated to get back to where he was. And as many have noticed by now, he’s already very close to that level already.

In a 117-93 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Embiid dropped 27 points and 9 rebounds in just 27 minutes.

After the game, the superstar was asked about his part in the MVP race this season. This is what he had to say.

“When it comes to the MVP stuff, I feel like I’m still right there. When I’m on the floor, I feel like I’ve been the best all season. Just doing my thing, just dominating. I’ve been dominant all season, and I’m not going to stop”

It’s hard to disagree with the Philadelphia 76ers star here. The player has hardly waited to get going once again. And while the franchise was strong without him on the floor, the difference of Joel Embiid has been palpable, to say the least.

Whether or not he can continue this form in the postseason is yet to be seen. But, the 27-year-old is reminding us all why it was him who was the frontrunner in this race.
