“LeBron James cares about winning championships, not MVPs”: Anthony Davis clears the air on Lakers MVP and his intentions going into this season

Anthony Davis says that LeBron James couldn’t care less about winning another MVP and that he only looks to win another championship.

The defending champs Los Angeles Lakers made several offseason moves before the start of the 2020-21 NBA season to put themselves in a better position to repeat as world champions. However, following Anthony Davis’s injury, a few glaring problems within their roster construction started to emerge.

With the problems mainly being highlighted on defense, the Lakers may regret giving up on Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee in the long run. With Dennis Schroder also being out, 36-year-old LeBron James has had to carry a significant workload. Since the Davis injury, LeBron James ranks first in the league in minutes played.

Many believe James is taking to the floor to boost his case for MVP as he’s currently in the top 5 for MVP this season. Co-star Anthony Davis puts these rumors to rest.

Anthony Davis claims that LeBron James is much more focused on winning a title over another MVP

Seems a bit odd that as the Lakers are starting to rack up losses despite LeBron James playing his heart out, Anthony Davis comes out with this statement.

Nevertheless, Davis told The Athletic that the 4x champ is least bothered by not winning the 2021 MVP as he’s much more interested in winning his 5th title.

LeBron James was making a solid case for himself for MVP this season as he was at the top of the leaderboard for several weeks at hand. However, with the Lakers currently on a 4 game losing streak, James has fallen in practically everyone’s view.

James has also entered a slight shooting slump as he’s shooting merely 19% from beyond the arc in his last 9 games. The Lakers have been middling ever since Davis went down, with their defense taking the biggest hit.

With centers around the league bullying their way to the cup and their guards giving up wide-open looks on the perimeter, the Lakers need a serious reckoning to pull themselves back together.
