"LeBron James-Michael Jordan comparisons are still early for me and Tom Brady": Patrick Mahomes provides his take on the NBA GOAT debate

Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady are on the cover for Madden 22 together, drawing a lot of attention for the young Cheifs QB to the GOAT. And even though Mahomes is on the track to being one of the greatest to ever play the game, he doesn’t believe he and Tom Brady are the equivalents to LeBron and Jordan yet.

Tom Brady is the undisputed GOAT and has been for several years now. But only 3 seasons as a starter, Mahomes is pushing to take over the mantle from Brady. Mahomes has won an MVP, a Superbowl, and another Superbowl appearance the past 3 seasons.

However, Brady has gotten the best of Mahomes every time they’ve met in the postseason. Mahomes got bested by Tom Brady and the Patriots in overtime in the 2019 AFC championship game. And then lost to him once again in Super Bowl LV.

Mahomes pumped the breaks on Jordan-Lebron comparisons.

Tom Brady and Mahomes often get clubbed into the same conversation as the greatest to ever play the game. When asked about whether he and Brady can be viewed as the NFL’s equivalent of LeBron James vs. Michael Jordan, Mahomes wasn’t in agreement.

“I mean, it’s still early for the LeBron-Michael Jordan stuff but for me, if you’re in this league then you’re trying to win,” Mahomes said in a recent interview with First Take. “You’re trying to be the best player on that football field every single day. Tom’s done it for a long time and he’s won a lot of Super Bowls. When you’re coming up and watching football, you want to go out there and win championships like he’s done. I’m going to try to do whatever I can every single year to put us in a position that we can win a lot of championships, hopefully.”

Mahomes has a lot of hype around him, and his resume justifies it. But Mahomes clearly seems focused on taking things one season at a time. The Chiefs still have the best roster in the AFC and are favorites to win it all once again.
