NFL Draft 2021

The NFL draft 2021 is quietly approaching as teams will look to gear up for the future. How does the NFL draft work though, and how many rounds are in it?

The NFL draft order is already set, and the Jacksonville Jaguars hold the number one overall pick. There’s been speculation as to who they’ll take with top picks including Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson. It all remains a mystery, however, one that will be solved on April 29th.

How Many Rounds Are In the NFL Draft 2021?

The NFL draft is far more impactful than drafts in any other sports. Part of this has to do with the fact that free agency in the NFL doesn’t generate the same kind of activity that it does in, for example, the NBA. With less options in the free agency market, teams have to turn to the draft to retool.

Additionally, the NFL draft isn’t a make or break deal like the NBA draft. Why? Well, because the NFL draft has seven rounds. This means that a second round pick or a late first round pick is still extremely valuable. Teams are slow to get rid of these in trades, and that’s simply because you can find a gem all the way up to the third round.

The NBA draft only has two rounds which means that the draft is usually very top-heavy, but this is definitely not the case in the NFL.

Lamar Jackson was one of the last picks in the first round, but he’s now an MVP caliber quarterback. Buccaneers safety Antoine Winfield Jr. was drafted in the second round, and he made several clutch defensive plays as he became a mainstay on a Super Bowl winning defense.

There’s plenty of talent to go around in an NFL draft, and its long, drawn out nature, only makes it more exciting for fans, who can never truly give up hope.
