It had been 4 years since Djokovic lost at Indian Wells, and while it seemed on the cards, especially after the tough draw that he was handed out, after he edged past Del Potro(once again), it seemed that Kyrgios wouldn’t be much of a problem this time(like in Acapulco), as Djokoic is generally able to sort out his opponents, but Kyrgios showed us that what happened last week was not a fluke.

Kyrgios racked up a straight set victory over Djokovic, beating him 6-4, 7-6, and setting up a scintillating quarter final with Roger Federer.

Kyrgios was in god mode with his serve, facing no break points throughout the match and dishing out 14 aces in the process.

Djokovic said in his post-match press conference: “The run was amazing. I am very proud of it, obviously. It had to end at some stage. Unfortunately, it was today.

“Nick, again, as he did in Acapulco, served so well. I just wasn’t managing to get a lot of balls back on his serve, first and second, as well. That’s what made the difference”.

Kyrgios was proud of his performance and extremely jubilant about beating Djokovic twice in two attempts.

“It feels good, I knew what I had to do today, it was always going to be tough, he is a great champion.”

When asked if he’ll prepare differently for the mighty Roger Federer, he played down the fact that Federer will be across the net.

“It’s just another match for me I have to get ready for tomorrow. I am serving really well, that is creating chances for me to put pressure on their service games. My mentality is improving and I am trying really hard to fight for every point and just compete.”

He praised Federer’s return to prime and said that he will be up against one of the best of all time.

“Roger is one of my favourite players of all time.”

While Federer would love to face Kyrgios instead of Djokovic every day of the week, it wouldn’t be as easy as earlier, as Kyrgios seems to have found his mental peace and looks way more focussed on the tennis court than before.
