The semi-finals of the UEFA nations league is going to start with the exciting fixture between Portugal and Switzerland, as both the teams will vie to reach the final of the debut season of the newly invented league.

Portugal are the hosts for the fixture, and have been in a red hot form, as they finished unbeaten atop group A3 last year, with two wins and two draws against Italy and Poland, which saw them confirm qualification to the finals with a game to spare.

On the other side, Switzerland are surprised entrants at this stage head of Belgium in group A2 on goal difference in games between the two sides.

After a 2-1 defeat in Belgium, Switzerland came from 2-0 down to beat their rivals 5-2 at home in the final game of group, condemning the favourites to second place.

However, with the main player back for their respective sides, anything can happen on the match-day. We shall look at the dream 11 picks between Portugal and Switzerland.

Portugal Vs Switzerland

Formation: 4-4-2

Goalkeeper

Rui Patricio: There was a lot of dilemmas while choosing between Patricio and Yann Sommer as both are brilliant at their jobs. However, considering Portugal playing at home, Patricio has an edge over here. Additionally, Sommer’s recent errors have made us consider Patricio too.

Defenders

Joao Cancelo: The 25-year-old defender has been brilliant option for Portugal and have started regularly in the recent matches for his national team. His defensive prowess and ability to assist will provide us crucial points.

Pepe: The veteran defender is the most experienced center-back in the Selecaos. His aerial threats have always been a concern for the opposition. He is undoubtedly a worthy inclusion at back.

Manuel Akanji: The Swiss defender is also a concrete option at the back. Moreover, his recent exhibits make his case for this lineup. A reliable defender at back, Switzerland have been great with him at back.

Ricardo Rodriguez: The 26-year-old defender is a reliable option at the left side of the defense. Moreover, he is also an attacking threat upfront as he contributed in three goals in Serie A last season. His ability to create chances can help us to obtain few points.

Midfielders

Bernardo Silva: There should not be any doubts on Bernardo Silva’s inclusion in this side. He is probably the best midfielder on the pitch tonight. His exploits with Manchester City is enough to justify his inclusion.

Granit Xhaka: Xhaka has been impressive with Arsenal this season and has been a crucial player for the Swiss national team. His long-range shots and ability to create chances from deep are impressive. Thus, he deserves the inclusion.

Xherdan Shaqiri: Shaqiri is the marquee player for Switzerland, with his exploitative pace and high-pace shots, he has become the most vital player in the Swiss national team. Moreover, he is in a good form as he had a successful campaign with Liverpool. Hence, he i our vice captain for tonight.

Bruno Fernandes: The rising star of Portugal has impressed everyone by his exploits with Sporting Lisbon. The 24-year-old player contributed in 42 goals across all competitions last season, and deserves the inclusion.

Forwards

Albian Ajeti: The 22-year-old forward is making upto the ranks of the Swiss national team. On the other side there are doubts of Haris Seferovic’s inclusion, and budget constraints made us think Ajeti as the viable option as he is second in the pecking order for the Swiss.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Who would not place Ronaldo in their combined 11. The Portuguese captain is undoubtedly the best player on the pitch and has the ability to win the game for the Navigators single-handedly. Therefore, he is our captain for tonight.
