Premier League COVID Cases Surge To 40 After Latest Round Of Testing: The latest development has set a new record for the most number of positive tests in the league

The Premier League has confirmed today that there are currently 40 players and members of clubs who are down with the disease. The latest development comes just a day after Boris Johnson confirmed that the football in the league would go on interrupted despite the country going under its third lockdown.

The record breaking figures constitute two rounds of testing the league went onto state. The foregone round of testing has seen 12 fresh cases spring add, adding to the 28 cases which came to light during the 28 December-31 December period.

Premier League COVID Cases

“The Premier League can today confirm that between Monday 28 December and Thursday 31 December, 1,311 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, there were 28 new positive tests,” the league said in a statement.

“Between Friday 1 January and Sunday 3 January, 984 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19 and of these, there were 12 new positives.”

While the league refused to name the people testing positive for the disease, the players and members of the clubs will now be required to isolate for 10 days. Manchester City have been ravaged by the disease with all of Ederson, Walker, Jesus, Tommy, Torres and Garcia all testing positive.

Fulham are said to be reeling under the disease as well with the club’s bygone showdown against Burnley being called off due to an outbreak of cases as the club.

England has a while has been run to the ground by the pandemic with the country needing to go into a fresh lockdown to curb cases. A lacklustre approach to COVID norms by the country’s citizens and a more virulent strain which spreads 70% faster than the traditional one has seen 2.7 million confirmed cases in UK.

While the Premier League will continue despite the new lockdown, all stadiums have once again been asked to shut their doors with the Carabao Cup final being postponed.
