Fandom for sport in India is on the rise. Long gone are the days when sport was considered just as a recreational activity, with people in India striving day in and day out to make sport a part of their everyday life.

European and American Leagues have been heavily investing into the Indian market, trying to take advantage of this growing fandom towards ‘Western sport’ in a country that was largely known for cricket fanaticism.

But a sporting culture cannot be inculcated through mere buying of ‘media rights’ and online promotion of the top league in and around the world. Sport has to be ‘felt’ in its truest form, and that is possible only when the millions of talk and watch sport, actually get onto the field and get a feel for the game, first hand.

And that is exactly what ‘Born To Play’ is trying to achieve in India. It wants India to become a sporting powerhouse by embracing sport on the field/court, and not from the comfort of their couch.

It also provides sporting enthusiasts an opportunity to rekindle with their first love – ‘Sport’. And boy have they have been doing a fabulous job!

Born to Play aspires to ‘make sports an essential part of everyone’s routine and not just an option’, a very bold initiative, which they are confident of achieving in due course of time.

They have built a strong network of sports enthusiasts over the past few years by organising regular tournaments in the Delhi-NCR region, and promulgating that competitive spirit between individuals of all age and strata.

For someone who has watched their heroes flourish in world events time and again, Born To Play, gives those ‘fans’ a chance to have their own shot at glory(by winning a tournament) and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

The 3×3 Streetball Challenge organised by BTP brings together Basketball teams from all over the north region(Jaipur, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi-NCR), to compete in an innovative Basketball format which has been taking the world by storm in the last fee years. So much so that it has also been included as an Olympic sport, all set to debut at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The sport is played on a ‘Half- Court’, with 3 both sides fielding 3 players on court.

Venue: JLN Stadium, New Delhi

Time: 8:30 am- 5pm

Prizes

  • Top 4 teams to get Jerseys and Medals
  • Winners and Runners up to receive INR 10000 and INR 5000 respectively as prize money

The Streetball Challenge will go a long way in promoting the game of Basketball in Delhi-NCR, as amateur and semi-professional players are set to take the court tomorrow.

It is encouraging to see that close to 60 teams have already registered for the tournament, with more so expected to register on spot tomorrow morning.

With the NBA academy already set up in Noida, Born to Play hopes that such basketball tournaments every weekend can help drive the sport in this part of the country, and hopefully India can produce some Basketball super stars in the years to come.
