Kane had emerged as Tottenham’s top scorer under Mourinho

Although Jose Mourinho was responsible for putting the brakes on a slew of careers at Tottenham, the one player who managed to thrive under him was his captain. Harry Kane was the side’s leading scorer in the Premier League under Mourinho’s tutelage, piling on a handsome 19 goals for the club.

He formed a lethal partnership alongside Heung-Min Son in the first park of the season. Adding to his gargantuan goal tally were an impressive 13 assists, numbers which saw Kane win contests for his team on his merit.

Kane Thanks Mourinho

The striker acknowledged the consummate success he had tasted under Mourinho as he took to Twitter to thank him for his time as the club’s coach.

“Thank you for everything, Boss. A pleasure to have worked together. I wish you all the best for your next chapter,” Kane wrote on Twitter.

Tottenham had previously on Monday decided they had seen enough of Mourinho with the club wielding the axe on the Portuguese. The club took it to its site to reveal the latest development.

“Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic,” Daniel Levy said.

“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

Tottenham who most recently drew 2-2 with Everton will now be going into their Carabao Cup final with Ryan Mason in charge. The side is slated to take on Manchester City in the showpiece summit clash as it vies to break its duck of going without a trophy in 13 years.

The mood around Tottenham is largely joyous with a bevy of the club’s supporters glad to see the back of a coach who was only bogging the side down with his outdated methods.
