It was meant to be, wasn’t it? Berdych had a role to play today, but not that of a villain. He was there to test Federer, to make him work hard, but never to outplay him. The script was ready, perhaps had been for a long time.

Roger Federer played two gritty sets of Tennis to ward off the Berdych challenge. An early break in the first set meant that Roger was on course for a record 11th Wimbledon final, but Berdych wasn’t going to be a mere pushover. He clawed back into the set, pushed it into a tie breaker, but eventual fell apart.
Federer bagged the first set and looked in control, but he was yet to break-free.

The second set too had moments of brilliance from both players, more so from Federer, but he just couldn’t break the Berdych resolve.
Another tie break was played and Federer came on top again, playing the important points better and taking a daunting two sets to love lead here on Centre Court.
Everyone was then waiting for the third set, waiting for Federer’s genius to unleash, and unleash it did.
The third set was a proper schooling, where Berdych was toyed with all through. Berdych still hung in there, refusing to throw in the towel, but Federer’s brilliance was just a bit too much to handle for him.
Federer will now taken on Marin Cilic in the Wimbledon Gentlemen’s singles final on Sunday. They met last year too in the quarter-finals, where Cilic had taken a 2 sets to love lead, but couldn’t kill it off.

Also, last time these two faced off in a Grand slam final, Cilic came out on top in the US Open. Federer would be hoping that Cilic doesn’t bring his A-game to the table on Sunday!
