Sebastian Vettel had a forgetful 2018 season, one where he could have won the 2018 title but ended up having to settle for 2nd place, as Lewis Hamilton was unstoppable in the 2nd half of the season.

The German would hope for a good winter, one where he can work on his skills and communicate with his engineers about the intricacies of the new 2019 machine.

Vettel is in search for inspiration and direction going into the 2019 season, something that he could have easily received from his hero, Michael Schumacher.

For Vettel, Schumacher is the greatest driver in history, for the kind of skills that he possessed and the kind of results that he could manage with those skills.

In an interview with the F1’s racing magazine, Vettel revealed the kind of impact Schumacher had on his early life and career.

Vettel had posters of the 7 time world champion in his room and always wanted to emulate him on the track.

“He was my hero,” Vettel told F1 Racing’s magazine.

“I used to have posters on the wall of him. I met Michael for the first time when I was seven. Then, later, I got to know him as a person, and he was always there for me, with a word of advice or help.

“For me, he is the best driver we have ever had in terms of talent, skills, passion and willpower. He will be remembered as the best driver in history.

“I think he was uncontested both in terms of talent and his attitude to sport – the devotion, the work, the will, always to give more than anyone else.” he added.

Schumacher has been battling with the injuries that he sustained after that horrific ski accident in 2013.

Updates about Schumacher’s health are rare, as the family wants privacy during this testing phase of their lives.

Schumacher is presently in his luxury home in Switzerland and has 24*7 care at his disposal.

Vettel wished Schumacher well and emphasised on how he missed his presence around him.

“Of course I wish him the very best and hope that he will continue to fight the battle and come back some time.

“I miss his opinion, his advice, his expertise.” he concluded.
