Virat Kohli career stats

Virat Kohli career stats: Kohli achieved a couple of batting records in the first innings against West Indies at Rajkot today.

During the first Test of West Indies’ tour of India at Rajkot, Indian captain Virat Kohli surpassed Sunil Gavaskar in the list of scoring most 50+ scores as Test captain for India. In which was Kohli’s 20th Test half-century, it was his 26th 50+ score as Test captain for India.

Kohli, who was joint-second on this list with Sunil Gavaskar (25), has surpassed the former Indian captain and the first batsman to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket.

Kohli, who made his Test debut against West Indies at Kingston in 2011 under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is only behind him for he has scored 29 50+ scores as Test captain for India.

Kohli was named the captain of the Test side during India’s tour of Australia in 2014. It was during that tour only that Dhoni retired from Tests, handing the reigns of the team to Kohli.

Not including the ongoing match, Kohli has captained India in 41 matches, scoring 4,121 runs at a whopping average of 65.41 and a strike rate of 62.62. The numbers itself show how captaincy has brought out the best from the 29-year old Indian captain.

In which was the second feat which Kohli achieved today, he surpassed Steven Smith’s record of 6,199 Test runs. Kohli, who started the day on 6,147 runs, outshone Smith just after completing his half-century.

To start the day on an affirmative note for India, Kohli finally ended up winning the toss. After electing to bat first, he saw debutant Prithvi Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara stitching a 206-run partnership for the second wicket. The former scoring a Test century on debut remained the highlight of the day for India.

Kohli, who came in to bat at No. 4 in the 43rd over, ended up remaining unbeaten on 72 (137). His innings comprised of four fours. Below are some of the recent Twitter reactions on Kohli:
