India surrendered meekly to England at Lord’s, with the batsmen not showing any application in challenging conditions.

Ravichandran Ashwin was the top scorer in both innings for the team, something that shouldn’t be acceptable at this level.

Virat Kohli was absolutely gutted after the loss and spoke about how India were completely outplayed by England.

India did not have the best of conditions for themselves, however, Kohli refused to base the defeat on it.

“Not very proud of the way we played to be honest. First time in last five Test matches we’ve been outplayed. Credit to England. They were clinical. When a team plays like that they deserve to be on the winning side.” Kohli said in the post match presentation

“Can’t really think about those things (conditions not in favour). You have to counter the conditions as and when they come to you. Can’t crib about these things. Sometimes the rub of the green will go your way too.

“Won’t sit around and say that we didn’t have the best of conditions. Their bowlers were relentless with the ball. Looking at things now, the weather was so unpredictable, I think we got the combination a bit off before the game. Chance to correct that next game.” he added.

India will now need to regroup quickly, get back to the drawing board and chalk out a game plan to tackle the English bowling attack.

The batsmen need to find the correct balance between defence and attack, as they need to unsettle Anderson and also stay cautious when he is at the top. Pujara could be the one holding one end up, with the others batting and scoring runs around him.

The combination needs to be worked out real quick, or else we might be in for another humiliating whitewash.
