During the second day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Melbourne, India captain Virat Kohli nearly overtook Cheteshwar Pujara while the duo was running between the wickets.
In what went down as a hysterical moment, it spoke highly of Kohli’s fitness. Arguably the best in the business, Kohli has put on display such instances of his elite fitness in the past as well.

It happened on the fourth delivery of the 120th over when Kohli clipped a Pat Cummins delivery towards the deep mid-wicket region. Swift as he is, Kohli was interested in coming back for the fourth run as the ball didn’t have the legs to reach the boundary.

However, Pujara, a slow runner, had merely completed his third run and was clearly seen refusing the fourth one. It was mature of Kohli to not run the fourth run as it would have been converted into a mix-up.

Having resumed batting from yesterday, the duo stitched a 170-run stand for the third wicket. While there might be criticism regarding the respective strike rates of both the players, there is no hiding to the fact that they build a strong foundation for the others to follow.
Given the varying bounce which the pitch is experiencing, India have the opportunity to post a formidable total in their first innings. With Australia slated to bat fourth in the match, things are highly likely of becoming all the more difficult for them.
