LeBron James is chasing the ghost of Michael Jordan in order to get revered as the GOAT in the history of basketball.

Jordan dominated the league during his time with the Chicago Bulls, winning 6 NBA titles with an envious 6-0 record.

But it is not only his rings or his finals record that makes Jordan the greatest of all time. The ‘brand Jordan’ largely helped define the NBA in terms of a global perspective; Jordan helped put basketball on the world map and that kind of impact is what separates Jordan from the rest.

LeBron, with his skills on the court has separated himself from his peers is now on a mission to achieve the impossible.

But he will need to work on his PR skills a little whilst dealing with that GOAT debate.

In an interview which was released on LeBron’s birthday, James admitted that post the 2016 NBA finals win he felt like he had become the greatest of all time.

The statement has received a lot of negative attention, as never once in his career did Jordan refer to himself as the GOAT(he hasn’t done it post his career too).

Whilst LeBron confirmed that he felt like the GOAT post that NBA finals in this recently released interview, post the 2017 Eastern conference finals, LeBron did not quite bring out the ‘GOAT admission’ and instead was content with being spoken about in the same breath as Michael Jordan.

In an interview for GQ in 2017, LeBron had admitted that he had to be a little more consistent in order to surpass Jordan.

“If I was the most consistent and was at the top of the food chain more than anybody in NBA history” LeBron said.

LeBron was sure that if he could surpass the great Michael Jordan, it would be the greatest achievement for LeBron.

“My motivation is this ghost I’m chasing. The ghost played in Chicago” LeBron said.

“My career is totally different than Michael Jordan’s. What I’ve gone through is totally different than what he went through. What he did was unbelievable, and I watched it unfold. I looked up to him so much.

“I think it’s cool to put myself in position to be one of those great players, but if I can ever put myself in position to be the greatest player, that would be something extraordinary.” he added.

Do you think LeBron is still chasing the ghost of LeBron?
