During the fourth day of the third Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia at Melbourne, India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant was heard on the stump mic as passing remarks to Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon.
In what has been the story of this series, both the wicket-keepers in Pant and Australia captain Tim Paine haven’t let any opportunity to sledge the opposition batsmen go away. The fact that all of this banter has been carried out in a healthy manner speaks highly about the spirit in which the three matches have been played so far.
It all happened in the 80th over of the Australian innings when India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was bowling to Lyon. “C’mon Gary, you don’t want to come tomorrow [Day 5] for nothing,” Pant was caught by the stump mic as saying to Lyon.
Of all the times wicket-keeper have passed a comment regarding a batsman, the latter hasn’t replied back. However, it was a different case with Lyon who didn’t having a casual conversation with Pant.
Looking back towards Pant in the same over, Lyon was quoted, “I can’t understand you.”
Perhaps, wanting to end the banter on a pleasing note, Lyon added, “I like you too Rishabh.”
It was at this point in time that India captain Virat Kohli contributed with a cheeky comment on Lyon. “Dil pe baat lag gayi lagta hai (your words have hurt him),” Kohli was heard saying to the Indian wicket-keeper.
