During the first day of the first Test of the ongoing India’s tour of Australia, India middle order batsman Rohit Sharma was seen bringing his limited-overs form into Test cricket as he hit a Pat Cummins delivery for an exquisite six over the cover region.
It happened on the third delivery of the 33rd over when Sharma followed the line of the ball to loft it over the boundary.
Sharma came in to bat at No. 6 in the 21st when vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. Having lost four wickets, Indian batsmen were required to rebuild the innings.
While Cheteshwar Pujara was at his archetype job, Sharma was showing signs of taking on the opposition. Batting in single digits, Sharma had earlier also hit Cummins for a six which came via a pull shot.
There was a time when it seemed that Sharma would rescue team India out of trouble. In what didn’t happen eventually, Sharma would be repenting on the shot which he played to get out.
The 31-year old right-hand batsman was mis-timing a Nathan Lyon delivery to deep square leg fielder. Sharma ended up scoring 37 (61) with the help of two four and three sixes.
