Dwyane Wade’s Daughter Zaya Legally Granted Name and Gender Change 3 Years After Coming Out as Transgender

Along with actress Gabrielle Union, former basketball star Dwyane Wade is raising five kids, including Wade's nephew.

The couple discussed parenthood and their newest children's book, "Shady Baby," which was inspired by their youngest daughter, in an interview with People magazine.

A few years ago, their daughter Zaya came out publicly as transgender.

“When I look at Zaya, I get hope,” said Wade. “Because I’m like, okay, we raised [our kids] to be authentic.”

Recently, Zaya has been granted name and gender change almost after three years after coming out as transgender.

The Judge approved the requests on Friday, February 24. The teen is now legally known as Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.

The NBA star first revealed that his daughter is transgender while he was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2020.

Though Zaya has not yet addressed her legal name and gender change, she appears to be living her best life.
