LeBron James vs. Isaiah Stewart Fight Explained: The Strike That Led To LeBron's First-Ever Suspension

On 21st November 2021, the Lakers and Pistons were amidst a game that saw Detroit surprisingly leading Los Angeles through the first half. 

Despite the Lakers' well-known troubles, LeBron James returned to the lineup after missing eight games due to an abdominal ailment.

The Lakers nevertheless found themselves losing by 11 points on the road in Detroit with little over nine minutes left in the third period, contrary to the presumption that James' return would make everything better.

James and Stewart were entangled, causing James to strike Stewart in the face. The Pistons centre was bled when Stewart's under-eye was cut open by the hit. Although initially rather subdued, things quickly became tense.



After a brief conversation, Stewart started to become more agitated. He began breaking tackles like an NFL running back and charging at James while his teammates, coaches, and officials attempted to restrain him.


James was penalised for one game for "recklessly hitting" Stewart in the face, while Stewart was suspended for two games for "escalating an on-court dispute by repeatedly and forcefully pursuing James."

It was James' first career suspension; otherwise, he had an almost spotless record with the NBA league office.
