World Badminton Championships

The World Badminton Championships is set to get underway from the 21st of August in Glasgow. All top shuttlers will be vying for top honours at the event. The Indian contingent will have full representation(4 players) in the men’s and women’s event and will be hoping to leave their mark on the World Championships.

Indian badminton has been on the rise in the last 1 year, with PV Sindhu creating ripples in the international circuit by winning the silver medal in the Rio games, and the men exchanging spots to win Super Series after Super Series.

Fans would be hoping that the Indian shuttlers can replicate their heroics in the World Badminton Championships as well, as you need to make it count in the big tournaments to distance yourself from the pack.

The seedings for the World Badminton Championships hav been announced, and PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikant will be leading the Indian contingent in the women’s and men’s events respectively. Sindhu has been seeded 4th and Srikanth has been seeded 8th.

World number 16, Saina Nehwal has been seeded 12 at the event.

Other Indian seeds:

Ajay Jayaram- 13th seed

B Sai Praneeth- 15th seed

Sameer Verma- Unseeded

Pranav Jerry Chopra and Sikky Reddy(Mixed Doubles)- 15th seed

Pullela Gopichand has time and again emphasised on the fact that the Indian shuttlers need to bring their A-game to the table in ‘events that matter’. Wins in ‘other’ world tour events wouldn’t mean much, if they don’t translate into stellar performances in the World Championships and the Olympic games.
