Manchester United offers to waive off loan sums owed by 3 EFL clubs to prevent financial strain on them
Manchester United offers to waive off loan sums owed by 3 EFL clubs to prevent financial strain on them posed by the pandemic.
Manchester United have decided to waive off the loan sums of three EFL clubs- Hearts, Bolton Wanderers and Burton Albion that they owed for taking players on loan.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, the decision of reprieving the loan fee will save the trio of cash-strapped clubs a combined fee of £130,000.
The Premier League side has told Hearts, who had taken goalkeeper Joel Pereira, Bolton Wanderers, who had borrowed midfielder Ethan Hamilton, and Burton Albion, who had brought in keeper Kieran O’Hara, that fee owed will not be called in.
The report further states that Manchester United felt it would be exploitative to seek the amount from the clubs already struggling during the pandemic and decided to swallow the six figures amount.
The decision to waive off this amount comes after the update that Manchester United’s debts have increased astronomically, however the club ensured that they have sufficient cash flow to survive it.
Meanwhile, League Two clubs Oldham and Salford currently have Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and George Tanner on their books with Jacob Carney Max Taylor and Alex Fojticek in non-league.
Thus, we could expect an update on their payments in the near future. On the other hand, Manchester United has its first-team players on loan to some elite clubs in Europe.
Alexis Sanchez in inter Milan, Chris Smalling in Roma and Dean Henderson in Bournemouth, and all of their futures are yet to be decided by the club.
