Cheteshwar Pujara injury: The senior Indian batsman hasn’t taken the field on the second day of the second Test today.

During the first day of the second Test of the ongoing England’s tour of India in Chennai yesterday, India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara had got hit on his right hand but continued his innings after receiving medical attention.

It all happened on the third delivery of the sixth over when an Olly Stone delivery nipped back into Pujara only to hit his right hand. While the right-hand batsman did well to survive the delivery, he couldn’t prevent it from hitting his hand.

Pujara, who had copped multiple blows on the body during the last Test of the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, seemed to be unperturbed after getting hit at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

In what appears to be more of a precautionary measure, India have decided to rest Pujara on the second day of the Test match. As a result, the 33-year old player didn’t take the field after India got bundled out in the first innings.

“Cheteshwar Pujara was hit on his right hand while batting on Day 1 of the second @Paytm Test against England at Chepauk. He felt some pain later. He will not be fielding today,” BCCI tweeted to share an update on Pujara.

It is worth mentioning that reserve opening batsman Mayank Agarwal is substituting on the field for Pujara.

Chasing India’s first innings total of 329/10, England have already lost as many as three wickets including that of captain Joe Root (6). Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel, India’s first three bowlers today, have picked a wicket apiece till now.

Earlier, it was India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant (58*) who scored his sixth Test half-century this morning as the Indian tail-enders were involved in a batting collapse. With bowling figures of 29-3-128-4, England all-rounder Moeen Ali was the pick of their bowlers in the first innings.
