MI vs RR Man of the Match
Chasing a 172-run target, Indians registered a victory in the penultimate over primarily due to a 63-run partnership for the third wicket between wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock (70*) and all-rounder Krunal Pandya (39).
In batsman Ishan Kishan’s absence, Pandya was promoted to bat at No. 4. Yet to contribute significantly until today, the southpaw hit a couple of fours and sixes each to play an ideal second filled to de Kock.
However, it was de Kock who didn’t waste his start and ensured that he converted it into a match-winning innings. With the South African player hitting six fours and two sixes in an impact-generating innings, he was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
“To be totally honest, it’s a better wicket than Chennai in general, it just came on better. We spoke about it, the coach [Mahela Jayawardene] and Rohit [Sharma] did ask us to come out and be positive today and that’s what we did. Enjoyed getting the team to the end, I don’t do that often.
“I just came out and tried to be positive, that’s what the coach said and I said sign me up, I want to be positive. There’s a way of going about it. Obviously I’ve played enough to know how to go about it,” de Kock told Star Sports during the post-match presentation ceremony.
